Carlsbad - Staying balanced on one socked foot can be tough. It seems obvious, but Joe Patterson received a patent and built a business on it. Whether on one foot or two, someone doing yoga or Pilates stays in much better control if her toes can splay and if the undersurface of her feet or socks is grippy. So Patterson designed socks (ToeSox) that separate the toes and have small rubber dots on the bottoms. (North County Times)
Legal Issues Prevent Park from Installing Pop Icon in Miniland on July 3, 2009
Earlier this week, Legoland California announced its plans to install a Mini LEGO Model of Michael Jackson in Miniland USA. The figurine was going to be the centerpiece of a scene outside of the mini Grauman’s Chinese Theater in the Southern California section of Miniland. A video posted on CNN’s iReport and a Twitter campaign invited viewers to comment on the various mini Lego Michael Jackson models created by the Model Builders, with the installation of the most popular LEGO Michael Jackson model scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2009.
Miniland is the heart of Legoland California and is where you can find miniature versions of nine geographical areas from around the country including Washington D.C., Southern California, New York, Las Vegas and New Orleans. The area features four-inch-tall replicas of several iconic figures including President Barack Obama and Aretha Franklin in Miniland Washington D.C. and Elvis Presley in the Grand Central Terminal in Miniland New York.
Unfortunately, the King of Pop will not be gracing the lawns of Miniland USA. Legoland has announced that, due to unresolved legal issues, Legoland California is no longer moving forward with its plan to install a model of Michael Jackson in Miniland U.S.A. as a tribute to the pop icon’s historical contribution to the history of music.
“We were looking forward to installing a small tribute to Michael Jackson in Miniland,” said Peter Ronchetti, General Manager of Legoland California Resort. “However, legal matters have come to light that prevent us from displaying the model in the Park.”
Another bad week for Michael Jackson, it seems…

July 3, 2009: Mini Michael Jackson Will Be Installed in Miniland; Help Decide Which MJ the Model Builders Will Use
Michael Jackson, the proclaimed “King of Pop”, is joining Miniland U.S.A. as a resident of Miniland Southern California at Legoland California. Model Builders are using hundreds of LEGO bricks to create a Michael Jackson scene which will depict the late Jackson getting out of a limousine surrounded by paparazzi and fans. The marquee at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre will be updated to read “Thriller” as well. The front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre was selected for the Miniland scene since Jackson’s star on the Walk of Fame is right in front of the Hollywood landmark.
Michael Jackson joins an esteemed group of iconic LEGO figures who can be found throughout Miniland U.S.A. including President Barack Obama and Aretha Franklin in Miniland Washington D.C. and Elvis Presley in the Grand Central Terminal in Miniland New York.
Legoland California thought it would be fitting to include Michael Jackson in Miniland for his historical contributions to the world of music. One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, some of Jackson’s other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records - including one for “Most Successful Entertainer of All Time” - 13 Grammy Awards, 13 solo number one singles and the sale of 750 million records worldwide.
While trying to capture the most recognizable version of Jackson, the three Model Builders working on the project have actually created five different versions:
