2011 Holiday of Lights at the Del Mar Racetrack

November, December & January: Cruise Through the Holiday of Lights in Del Mar

The Del Mar Holiday of Lights 2011 is just around the corner! Get ready for another year of sparkling lights, animated displays and family friendly fun at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, starting Thanksgiving Night November 24, 2011 to New Year’s Day January 1, 2011.

With more than 400 sparkling, crowd-pleasing displays placed around the world famous Del Mar Racetrack, the Holiday of Lights is a spectacular drive-through light show and exhibit themed for the holiday season. And with over 18,000 vehicles passing through last year, the Holiday of Lights is certainly a very popular family friendly San Diego tradition!

Visitors drive along the 1.5 mile route through the Del Mar Racetrack and enjoy the lighted displays from the comfort of their car, while enjoying festive holiday music fed through the radio. While the displays are holiday-themed, there’s always a little bit of Southern California thrown in, so be sure to keep your eyes open for the Santas playing beach volleyball!

Don’t worry if you miss anything this first time around, you can take the drive as many times as you like!

Holiday Hayride

Enjoy the Holiday of Lights with a traditional holiday hayride! Guest will be treated to live holiday music and fire pits for roasting marshmallows before boarding the ride and after returning. Your ticket includes the Holiday of Lights tour, hot chocolate or cider, and a holiday cookie. Holiday Hayrides run every half an hour from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on the following Fridays: November 25, December 2, December 9 and December 16, 2011.

Save money with discounted admission and coupons for the Del Mar Holiday of Lights:

Download and print this discount coupon and save $1.50 at the Gate. Coupon valid for one vehicle only; coupon not valid on Friday or Saturday nights. Coupon not valid for the Holiday Hayride.

Pre-purchase a discount ticket at your local Albertsons/Sav-on stores and save $2.00 per vehicle.

Military discounted tickets are available on base only and will not be available at the Holiday of Lights’ entrance. No discounts are offered for the Holiday Hayride. Contact your Base Ticket Office for discount tickets.

Group Discount is available on the advance purchase of 20 or more admission tickets (discount of $3.00 off). Group tickets do not need to be used on the same night. No discounts are offered for the Holiday Hayride.

The 2011 Holiday of Lights takes place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds (Interstate 5 and Via de la Valle), directly on the Del Mar Racetrack and runs every night from Thanksgiving November 24, 2011 to New Year’s Day January 1, 2012 (closed November 28, December 5 and 12, 2011) through to January 2, 2011. The hours are 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm Sundays through Thursdays and 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The Holiday Hayride runs every half hour from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Fridays November 25, December 2, December 9 and December 16, 2011.

Admission is $14.00 per vehicle, up to 5 people; $19.00 per vehicle for 6 or more people; and $49.00 per bus. Tickets for the Holiday Hayride are $10.00 per person; ages 3 and younger ride free. Note: Motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles are not permitted to tour the Holiday of Lights.

While the main attraction at the Del Mar Races is, of course, the world renowned Thoroughbred Horse Racing Competition (including a million dollar purse for the winner of the Pacific Classic race on Sunday, August 22, 2011); more and more people are heading to the Del Mar Racetrack to enjoy the events that take place around the races, such as the Del Mar Summer Concert Series. With top bands and world renowned artists taking the stage, it’s easy to understand why the horses are getting a run for their money!

The concerts in the Del Mar Summer Concert Series are free for fans attending the races ($20.00 if you are not attending that day’s races). All concerts will be held at the Seaside Stage (new venue!), which is a non-smoking venue. For Friday shows, patrons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. For Saturday and Sunday concerts, patrons must be 18 years or older to attend. All concerts are standing room only; there are no reserved seats (get there early to get the best spots). Concerts start after the last race of the day.

The 2011 Del Mar Races Thoroughbred Horse Racing season takes place from Wednesday, July 20, 2011 to Wednesday, September 7, 2011. There are no races on Mondays and Tuesdays (the Races will be open on Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2011). All races take place at the Del Mar Racetrack located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard, Del Mar, CA, 92014. All concerts are free with paid admission to the Del Mar Races.

Discounts and Free Admission

$3.00 Tickets and Admission – Head to the Fair for $3.00 Tuesday! Admission to the Fair on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 is only $3.00 with special tickets which will be sold only at Albertsons/Sav-on stores ($5.00 minimum purchase required with Albertsons Preferred Card). And, $3.00 Tuesday is also Kids’ Day at the Fair, when all children 12 and younger are admitted free.

San Diego County Fair (Media Photo - All Rights Reserved)Kids’ Day at the Fair – Tuesdays are Kids’ Day at the SD Fair. Children ages 12 and younger admitted free every Tuesday.

Discount Tickets and Admission – Pre-purchase your Fair tickets at your local Albertsons grocery store and bypass the ticket line when you get to the Fair. And the best part: Adult tickets are $2.00 off the regular price of admission when you buy them at Albertsons (regular-price senior and children’s tickets are also available at Albertsons).

Free Admission – Kids who read can get in for free! Children 12 and younger who read 10 or more age-appropriate books, and have that verified by a teacher or librarian, will be rewarded with free admission any day of the Fair.

Military Discount – Those in the military can buy their tickets on base and save. You also can pick up a program of major Fair events and a special “Military Value Sheet” with more than 40 Fair vendor coupons. Military discount tickets are available for purchase on base only to the following customers with appropriate Military ID: active duty, dependants, reservists, retirees, and DoD employees. Military discounts are not available at the Fair admission gate, and are subject to availability at the base ticket offices.

Group Discount – Get a group together (specialty organizations, family, friends, etc.) and save on admission. Tickets must be purchased in advance, but do not have to be used on the same day. Groups can also pre-purchase game tickets (at 50% off) and food vouchers in $5.00 increments.

Pennysaver Value Day – All attendees receive a free PennySaver Value Day coupon booklet full of savings on food, beverages, and products at the Fair. Discounts found in the Coupon Book include a free drink when you buy a sandwich or other meal and 10% to 25% off certain products.

Package Deals (Tickets and Rides)

Passport to Savings – A coupon book chock-full of more than 100 of the best deals! Most are deals you’ll get at the Fair, but many are deals from restaurants, theme parks and stores that operate year-round in San Diego County or Southern California. This coupon book has more than $1,000 in promotional savings and a chance to win a four-day trip for a family of four to Edmonton, Alberta, and Jasper National Park. Promotional savings range from a ticket to return to the Fair to discounts on your favorite food or ride. The Passport to Savings will be available every day during the Fair at a bargain price of $5.00 per book, and also will be sold online prior to the Fair for a 20% discount.

Best Pass Ever – There’s just too much to see at the Fair in just one day.  With this Season Pass, you can come to the Fair whenever you want and stay as long as you want! Fairgoers can purchase a wristband at the Fair that will allow you unlimited access to Fun Zone and Kiddieland rides from noon until 8:00 pm. Save even more on Pay-One-Price Ride Day with a $5.00 off discount coupon from Albertsons. Go to any San Diego County Albertsons/Sav-on and purchase two select Pepsi products using an Albertsons Preferred Savings Card (ask at the store to be sure you’re buying the correct products) to get this coupon, worth $5.00 off the price of the Pay-One-Price wristband. The coupon can be redeemed at the Fair’s Box office or online.

June 10 to July 4, 2011 – Kick Off Summer at the SD Fair 

You know that summer’s officially begun in San Diego when the Fair comes to town! The 2011 San Diego County Fair rolls into town for 22 days starting Friday, June 10, 2011 through Monday, July 4, 2011 (The Fair will be closed the first three Mondays, June 13, 20 and 27, 2011).

The San Diego County Fair is the largest annual event in San Diego County and the sixth largest fair in the United States. The 2010 Fair hosted more than 1.3 million guests and hit an all-time attendance record.

Southern California is a mecca for car clubs and car enthusiasts from around the world. There’s no better place to celebrate automotive history and car culture than at the San Diego County Fair! Featured throughout the Fair are exotic cars, luxury cars, “star” cars, muscle cars, low riders, Southern California car culture and lots more! And, true to the mission of the 22nd District Agricultural Association, the 2011 San Diego County Fair will highlight agriculture, farmers, 4H, FFA and Grange.

As always, the Fair will have more than 100 food vendors, great commercial exhibitors, thrill rides and attractions, the Paul Ecke Jr. Flower and Garden Show, a fun and educational Theme Exhibit, and a fantastic lineup of headliner entertainment with the Toyota Summer Concert Series on the Heineken Grandstand Stage, the Paddock Concert Series, The Solid Gold Series, the Chevrolet Del Mar Arena, and so much more!

The 2011 San Diego County Fair takes place on the Del Mar Fairgrounds at 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard, Del Mar, CA. The Fair opens on Friday, June 10, 2011 and closes on Monday, July 4, 2011 (the Fair will be closed on June 13, 20 and 27, 2011). Gates open daily at 11:00 am Tuesdays through Fridays; and 10:00 am Saturdays, Sundays and Monday, July 4 2011.
