The Free First Wednesdays Concert Series Returns to the California Center for the Arts in Escondido for the 2009-2010 Performance Season.

The California Center for the Arts in Escondido hosts the 2009-2010 season of free live concerts and performances on the first Wednesday of each month, starting September 2009. The “Wells Fargo Free First Wednesdays” performances take place twice (4:00 pm and 7:00 pm) on the first Wednesday of each month from September 2009 to June 2010. Seating is limited and is offered on a first come, first seated basis. Doors open one hour before each performance.

Wednesday, September 2, 2009:

  • The Alley Cats – The Alley Cats present the perfect blend of musical talent and comic timing as they bring their own contemporary style to the greatest hits of the 50s and 60s. This four-man a cappella group, which has been featured on numerous TV shows, radio jingles, festivals and thousands of live stage performances, has won over audiences nationally with their lively humor and engaging stories that appeal to young and old alike.

  • Brent Garcia - Acoustic folk rock artist Brent Garcia got his start playing restaurants and coffee houses in North Idaho. Garcia will share his unique combination of creative lyrics and smooth, soulful sound with Southern California in a concert that’s not to be missed.

  • Brandon Yip – Brandon Yip fuses ethnic and classical styles to create a sampling of sounds from around the world. Yip has played guitar professionally for almost 25 years and attended master classes with the world’s greatest artists.

  • The Pacific Belles Chapter of Sweet Adelines – Discover the real story behind all those pipers piping and drummers drumming when this women’s four-part a cappella chorus from Escondido takes the audience on a humorous romp through “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” featuring seasonal favorites and an assortment of musical treats from throughout the year.

  • The Screamin’ Primas – This Louis Prima tribute band combines elements of big band, rhythm and blues and Dixieland jazz to pay homage to the legendary Rat-Pack vintage entertainer. Backed by a group of superbly talented musicians, lead vocalists Guy and Lynette Gonzales capture the spirit and style of singing legend Louis Prima with uncannily accurate live recreations of hits like “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “Mambo Italiano,” and “Jump, Jive and Wail.”

This six-member group has entertained audiences in the San Diego area for nearly 30 years.

  • Ballet Folklorico Tierra Caliente – Known for their passion and professionalism on stage, Ballet Folkorico Tierra Caliente performs at yearly major events throughout San Diego County. The group was founded in 2005 under the direction of Jose Jaimes, who received the 2008 Local Hero Award from Bank of America. Celebrate the history and traditions of Mexico at this artistic and educational program.

  • Eveoke Dance Theatre – This unique theatre company cultivates compassionate social action through arts education and evocative performances. Eveoke Dance Theatre provides many performing opportunities for talented young people, teaching them artistic and political expression through the passion and beauty of dance.

The California Center for the Arts is located at 340 North Escondido Boulevard, Escondido, CA, 92025. Show times for the Free First Wednesdays performances are 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on the first Wednesday of the month. Seating is limited and provided on a first come, first seated basis. Doors open one hour prior to each performance. This is an all ages event.
