June12 – July 5, 2009: Summer Kicks Off with the San Diego County Fair
The San Diego County Fair is the largest annual event in San Diego County and the sixth largest fair in the United States, drawing more than 1.2 million visitors each year! With a new partnership with Albertsons/Sav-on, the SD Fair has music on its mind with “Music Mania” as this year’s theme!
The San Diego County Fair 2009 kicks off on Friday, June 12, 2009 with 22 days of entertainment. With eight stages located throughout the grounds, the Fair will showcase a full season of non-stop music mania, with performances by top recording artists on the Heineken Grandstand Stage to music from the ’60s and ’70s in the Solid Gold Series. There’s surely a tune for all music lovers.
This year’s nationwide search for the best band and soloist is taking Music Mania to the extreme in our Musicpalooza Contest. After hundreds of applicants, 31 performers (12 bands, 19 soloists) have been selected for a chance to win $25,000, in both divisions, and open for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on the Heineken Grandstand Stage on July 3, 2009.
The Music Mania exhibit sponsored by Jeffrey Scott Fine Magnetics offers a chance to learn about some of the most popular music genres and the musicians who helped make them what they are today – Classical, Country, Hip Hop/Rap, Jazz, Rhythm & Blues?Soul, Rock & Roll. You can also record your own CD, play Guitar Hero, and dance in the Silent Disco. The theme exhibit will showcase the music industry and how it has changed through history, memorabilia, and interactive exhibits.
Whether entering the San Diego County Fair’s Music Experience on the red carpet with the “paparazzi” or getting past the bouncer at the backstage entrance, there is music to “see” and music to experience. With our partners the Morrison Hotel Gallery, Carvin, Digidesign and the Museum of Making Music – every step of the way is engaging, interactive and mesmerizing.
The 2009 San Diego County Fair, which takes place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds (2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard, Del Mar, CA 92014), will be open daily from Friday June 12, 2009 through to Sunday, July 5, 2009 (note: the SD Fair will be closed on the first two Mondays – June 15, 2009 and June 22, 2009). Gates open at 10:00 am Saturdays and Sundays; 11:00 am on weekdays. Gates close 11:00 pm Fridays and Saturdays; 10:00 pm all other nights. Admission to the San Diego County Fair is $13.00 for adults; $7.00 for ages 6-12 and 62 and older; and free for ages 5 and younger. There is an additional charge for parking at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
