Wednesday, December 3, 2008:

  • Saxophobia - Audience members will see and hear a sopranino – the smallest saxophone in the world; a mammoth six and a half foot contrabass sax; and virtually everything in between. Fun seasonal sounds will be mixed in for some special holiday cheer.

Wednesday, January 7, 2009:

  • Laura Ellis - A musical journey through the dark and sultry world of film noir. Scintillating music, dance and classic film clips fuse to create a unique and thrilling event that transports the audience to the shadow-filled world of two-bit hoods, private eyes and treacherous dames.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009:

  • Brasil Brazil - Experience the fervor, enthusiasm and excitement of popular Brazilian music with a variety of styles, rhythms and faces representative of this colorful and tropical culture.

Wednesday, March 4, 2009:

  • Highland Way - Combining a superb blend of vocals, instrumentation, and unique arrangements, Highland Way is one of the most acclaimed bands bringing Scottish, Celtic and Irish music, to San Diego County and beyond.

Wednesday, April 1, 2009:

  • Chipper Lowell - Award-winning comedian Chipper Lowell returns to share his infectiously amusing comedic mayhem. Equally adept at unusual stunts, bizarre magic, dangerous juggling, razor-sharp adlibs and twisted, original stand-up comedy, Chipper Lowell is a truly eclectic fireball of a performer.

Wednesday, May 6, 2009:

  • Squeezebox - This one woman play skillfully weaves together stories about working in a women’s homeless shelter and the pursuit of true love. The humorous autobiographical skits show painfully funny portraits beautifully drawn in this poignant tale about finding dignity and grace in unusual places.

Wednesday, June 3, 2009:

  • Catch Me Bird - High-powered dance, incisive dialogue, and aerial elements combine for a jaw dropping performance by real life couple and talented dancers C. Derrick Jones and Nehara Kalev. Blurring the boundaries of the stage, they present vibrant and intimate self portraits through dance.

The California Center for the Arts is located at 340 North Escondido Boulevard, Escondido, CA, 92025. Show times for the Free First Wednesdays performances are 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on the first Wednesday of the month. Seating is limited and provided on a first come, first seated basis.
