Del Mar Races : 2008 Summer Concerts August and September

While the main attraction at the Del Mar Races is, of course, the world renowned Thoroughbred Horse Racing Competition (including a million dollar purse for the winner of the Pacific Classic race on August 24, 2008); more and more people are heading to the Del Mar Racetrack to enjoy the events that take place after the races, including the Summer Concert Series and 4 O’Clock Fridays Concerts.

With top bands and world renowned artists such as Gavin Rossdale, Devo, Ziggy Marley, English Beat, The Bravery and Pinback taking the stage this year alone, it’s easy to understand why the horses are getting a run for their money!

Here is a list of concerts and entertainment scheduled for the balance of the 2008 Del Mar Races season:

4 O’Clock Fridays: 
What better way to kick off the weekend than at the Del Mar Races 4 O’Clock Fridays? Head over to the concert stage (located at the Plaza de Mexico) and enjoy a free concert by some of the hottest bands in the country.

Friday, August 15, 2008:

  • The Wailers - Bob Marley and the Wailers took their reggae music to the world stage in 1971. Today, the Wailers, with lead singer Elan Atias, celebrate traditional reggae with a modern twist.

Friday, August 22, 2008:

  • Black Francis (The Pixies) - Black Francis…Frank Black…you may know him by different names, but one thing’s for sure; this Frontman of Alternative Rock band the Pixies is talented!

Friday, August 29, 2008:

  • Steel Pulse - Close down the 4 O’Clock Fridays Concert Series with roots reggae from Grammy award-winning Steel Pulse.

  • The English Beat - Influential British Ska Band The English Beat takes the stage to perform at Party in the Paddock on Closing Day.

The 2008 Del Mar Races Thoroughbred Horse Racing season takes place from Wednesday, July 16, 2008 to Wednesday, September 3, 2008. There are no races on Tuesdays.

Concerts at the Del Mar Races are free with paid track admission and begin following the last race of the day. General admission to the Del Mar Races starts at $6.00 per adult; minors 17 years of age and younger are admitted free and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.
