San Diego : American Idol Auditions – Part I: Registration

June 28th, 2007

Thinking of trying out for America’s hottest vocal talent show? American Idol Season 7 Auditions will kick off in San Diego on July 30, 2007 at Qualcomm Stadium.

Auditioning is a two-step process: first, you need to register to audition, and then you need to actually audition. Registration for auditions will take place on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29, 2007. Audition Day itself is scheduled for Monday, July 30, 2007.

The most up-to-date and accurate information about the American Idol Season 7 Auditions can be found on the official American Idol website. We highly recommend that you consult that website to educate yourself on the official contest rules and expectations.

For your convenience, we are posting a two-part summary of the registration and audition processes. Part I will highlight some of the details of the registration process, and Part II will do the same for the audition process.

Here are a few things you should know about registering for the American Idol Auditions:

Basic Eligibility: To register (and audition) for American Idol, you must be 16 to 28 years old on July 28, 2007 (in other words, born on or between July 29, 1978 and July 28, 1991) and a legal US citizen or permanent US resident who is eligible to work full time in the US.

Other Eligibility Criteria: If you auditioned for any of the previous seasons of American Idol, you might not be eligible to re-audition, depending on how far you made it the last time. Check the website for the details. Also, if you proceed to audition at one of the semi-final rounds in this year’s competition, you must be able to demonstrate that you do not have a talent agent or manager, a music recording, acting or modeling contract, a merchandising agreement or any other contractual agreement that would prohibit you from entering into an exclusive contract with American Idol and its affiliates.

Registering to Audition: Registration for auditions will take place two days prior to Audition Day; on Saturday, July 28, 2007 (starting time to be announced) until 8:00 am on Monday, July 30, 2007 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. Upon successful registration, you will be given a wristband and a seating ticket and asked to return on Audition Day. DO NOT take your wristband off or lose your seat ticket – they are not replaceable.

What to Bring to Register: You must bring two forms of ID that show proof of age and a photograph (ie. TWO of the following; birth certificate, driver’s license, passport, school ID card). (Note: you will have to bring the same two pieces of ID with you on Audition Day).

Who to Bring to Register: One person is allowed to accompany you to the audition. That person MUST also be present when you register so that he/she can show some photo ID and be issued a wristband and seat ticket. If you are under 18 years of age, your “accompanying guest” MUST be your parent or legal guardian. If you’re bringing a guardian (instead of a parent), in addition to photo ID, that person must also bring proof of guardianship.

Registration Fee: There is no cost, fee or charge for registering to audition or to audition. However, you will most likely have to pay for parking at Qualcomm Stadium.

Registering in San Diego: Registering in San Diego registers you for the San Diego audition only. You can audition in as many cities as you wish; however, you must re-register in every city in which you intend to audition.

Registering to Audition Does Not Guarantee an Audition: Registering to audition does not guarantee that you will be granted an audition, only that you are eligible to audition. Whether you actually do get to audition will depend on a number of factors, including space and time restrictions. The American Idol Producers have the final say.

I’ve Registered, Now What?: Once you have registered and have obtained your wristband and seat ticket, you must leave Qualcomm Stadium. Auditioners are not permitted to camp out outside or inside the Stadium. You will be asked to return to Qualcomm Stadium on Audition day, which is Monday, July 30, 2007.

Congratulations on getting through the registration process! Next comes the hard part: Auditioning! For information about Audition Day, check out our post: San Diego : American Idol Auditions – Part II: Audition Day.
