Random San Diego Christmas Holiday Events – December 9 & 10, 2006
December 7th, 2006
Get into the holiday spirit by taking in one of the many holiday parades and festivities happening in and around San Diego this weekend. Here’s the low down on some of the events:
Saturday December 9, 2006:
Old Town Holiday in the Park Open House – Strolling carolers grace the streets of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, luminarias are placed around the Park at sundown, merchants welcome you with refreshments and holiday cheer and the music of Mexico fills the air. This is the Old Town Holiday in the Park Open House. The Open House will be held from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This year, each merchant will be a collection point for Toys for Tots – the holiday tradition of the neighboring United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot.
Pacific Beach Holiday Parade – Pacific Beach really knows how to put on a party, and the Holiday Parade will be no exception. The Parade runs along Garnet Avenue between Haines and Cass Street from noon to 3:00 pm. (…Happy Hour at most PB bars and pubs starts around 4:00 pm and continues into the wee hours of the morning!)
Mission Bay Christmas Boat Parade of Lights – Mission Bay’s Boat Parade of Lights is the perfect way to end your day in Pacific Beach (see above for information about PB’s Holiday Parade). Stroll over to Mission Bay to watch brightly decorated boats pass along a five-mile route which begins at 7:00 pm from Quivira Basin. Best viewing of the Parade is from Crown Point, the east side of Vacation Island or the west side of Fiesta Island. The parade ends with the lighting of the Sea World Sky Tower Tree of Lights at 9:00 pm. For more information, call (858) 488-0501.
Oceanside Christmas Parade of Lights – Boats decorated in their holiday best circle the inner Oceanside Harbor starting at 7:00 pm. Best viewing is along the side of the harbor near the Harbor Police and fishing dock – from this vantage point, you can see the parade twice. For more information, call (760) 722-5751.
Escondido’s Grand Holiday Downtown – the month-long festivities continue in downtown Escondido this weekend with the Christmas Parade from 9 am to noon on Broadway, between Escondido High School and Grape Day Park. You can also peruse the 2nd Saturday Art Walk, enjoy a free horse and carriage ride and listen to free live jazz.
La Mesa’s Old Fashioned Christmas Village – La Mesa Boulevard comes alive with this outdoor market, music, caroling, food, horse drawn wagon rides, open bonfires and of course, a visit from Santa Claus. The event takes place from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on La Mesa Boulevard, between Date and 4th.
Sunday, December 10, 2006:
San Diego Bay Parade of Lights – The crown jewel of boat parades! Head down to the San Diego Bay for a spectacular fireworks display at 5:30 pm, followed by the Parade of Lights. The Parade begins at Shelter Island and makes its way toward Coronado. This event is very popular, so be sure to get there early for best viewing spots and parking. Can’t make it out this weekend? The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights will also be held next Sunday, December 17th at 5:30 pm.
La Mesa’s Old Fashioned Christmas Village – This event concludes today. La Mesa Boulevard comes alive with this outdoor market, music, caroling, food, horse drawn wagon rides, open bonfires, and of course, a visit from Santa Claus. The event takes place from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on La Mesa Boulevard, between Date and 4th.
