Coronado : Outdoor Ice Skating at the Hotel Del Coronado
December 4th, 2006
Outdoor ice skating in San Diego? Why not?!?
It’s time to brush off those dusty ice skates and head over to the Del for a truly unique Southern California experience – outdoor ice skating overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Located on the island of Coronado in San Diego and considered one of the top ten resorts in the world, the historic Hotel del Coronado was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Today, the beachfront hotel offers contemporary luxury in an enchanting Victorian atmosphere.
Famous for its elegant surroundings and lavish service (and the Marilyn Monroe/Tony Curtis/Jack Lemmon film Some Like it Hot), the Hotel del Coronado has been celebrating the holidays in grand tradition since 1988. In fact, America’s first electrically lighted outdoor Christmas tree made it debut at the Del in 1904. For this year’s Winter Wonderland holiday theme, the Del will be illuminated by nearly 60,000 glittering lights and decked from head to toe with silver and white sparkling snowflakes and icicles, and crimson velvet Santas.
As a part of the holiday festivities at the Del, visitors to the Del can enjoy outdoor ice skating now till January 1, 2007. The rink is open to the general public; you do not have to be a registered guest of the hotel to enjoy the ice skating.
Until December 18, 2006, three hour skating sessions are offered daily from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with special matinee skating sessions from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on weekends and holidays. From December 19, 2006 to January 1, 2007, all three skating sessions will be offered daily.
Three hour skating sessions cost $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for kids (ages 10 years and under); two hour matinee sessions cost $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for kids (ages 10 years and under). Ice skates are available for rent, for $5.00 per person. A portion of the 2006 skating proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego.
The Hotel del Coronado is located at 1500 Orange Avenue on the Coronado Island.
