The Queen is Coming to the San Diego Film Festival

September 23rd, 2006

Now in its fifth year, the San Diego Film Festival promises not to disappoint. This year’s film festival will be held from September 27 to October 1, 2006 in the Gaslamp Quarter.

Closing Night’s film The Queen chronicles the push-and-pull relationship between the British Monarch Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Tony Blair immediately following the tragic death of Princess Diana in 1997. With all the pre-Oscar buzz for Helen Mirren, not to mention her Best Actress Award at the Venice Film Festival, this film is a must see.

Opening Night’s selection, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, is no small fry either. This coming of age drama starring Robert Downey Jr. is a multi-award winner at both the Sundance Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.

The American Screenwriters Association’s annual conference will once again be held in conjunction with the Festival. This year’s theme is “Selling to Hollywood.” The Festival will also include films and panels from the Women Film Makers Series, the Native American Showcase, the Shorts Showcase and the Documentary series. New to the Festival this year is Film Rocks, a music video segment produced in conjuction with the House of Blues, San Diego.

Films and panels, parties and galas, 75 films and over 15,000 people attending, this Festival reinforces San Diego’s reputation as “Hollywood South.”

Individual movie tickets are $10.00 per show and are on sale now. Festival passes ranging from $60.00 to $300.00 are also available.
